Old Prize Fights in and around Berksire

A book consisting of over 20 bare knuckle prize fights between 1787 to 1868 fought in and around the borders of Berkshire. Many of the fighters were famous names of the day and some fights were classed as for the English Championship. Berkshire was a hotbed for these illegal fights, being far away and rural enough from London for the law generally to interfere but near enough for the supporters from the capital and surrounding counties to travel to.
Many other fights have a short description or just details such as names, results and purses as there was not the press coverage available for this brutal sport at that time.
